In the morning we set off on the trains to Harajuku. Harajuku is a district which is home to the Meiji shrine and colourful streets full of little shops. After we arrived we broke into two groups - those who wanted to explore the shrine and the others who wanted to explore the busy streets. Meiji shrine was a peaceful environment consisting of a larger forest resting in the middle of Tokyo. Before we entered the temple we had to wash our hands. The temple was beautiful and many of us purchased good luck charms for family and friends. For those who did not go to the Meiji shrine, we split off and had a look around the shops and then went to a cat cafe. The cat cafe was filled with cats of all kinds from long to short haired cats, a couple with stumpy legs, tiny kittens, some with cranky faces and even one with different colored eyes. This was a heaven for animal (especially cat lovers) to sit back with a cup of coffee and relax amongst the many fluffy friends.
After we had finished in Harajuku we headed to the electronics district, Akihabara. Once again we split off to look around at all the games and lights Akihabara had to offer. Some went to a massive technology store and ate delicious ramen for lunch. Others managed to find the interactive Sega store.
Then, it was time to watch the sumo wrestlers. It was an exciting event, and was a very different and unique experience. The matches were generally short but occasionally there was a very close pair of competitors. The wrestlers were very talented and we saw the world number one compete, Harumafuji. Once that had finished, we got on the train and Miss Gamble started talking to a lovely Japanese couple who took us to our restaurant. It was very kind of them as they went out of their way to show us where our restaurant was despite the raging typhoon. We went to have dinner at Yakiniku. Yakiniku is a place that you got to cook your own meat. We tried weird and wonderful meats like liver, heart, womb, intestines, tongue and squid. We ended the day at the time square of Japan, Shibuya crossing before quickly viewing Hachiko statue. Today was a busy but exciting day.
